Steel WÜL Trivia - the ghost

Question:
Name this American cycling icon.

Answer:
Rob Parsons - 5 time winner of Nevada City Classic, 2 time National Road Champ, Pan Am Games Silver Medalist, 1968 Olympian and the only guy I know who raced against Sir Eddy.

Peter Flanders and Daniel Green - without hesitation.

For the record:

On our way back from the Redlands Bicycle Classic in the early 90's Rob pulled the van into the community of Canada and we visited with his mother. His father retired as the Deputy Fire Chief of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. He told me that he would catch rides from his dad's buddies in the fire engine as a kid.

  1. Rob Parsons..? Then again, my guessing record here hasn't exactly been flawless. Here's another shot of him anyway, for the record (think I already sent this over, but in case anybody missed it): http://lahonda.typepad.com/files/tour-del-mar-program.pdf.

  2. Yeah, it's Rob(at that time 'Bob')when he was still from down south, wearing a Pasadena Athletic Association jersey. Funny you should mention the Regal saddle since that's what he rides now.

  3. FYI... Rob (er uh or Bob, depending on your age), was just voted into the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame and will be formally inducted on November 3rd, 2012 in Davis CA (Home of the Hall of Fame). http://www.usbhof.org/news-a-events/124-class-of-2012-inductees-announced

Hey does anyone know the photographer who took this picture? I'd like to use it...

    1. I don't know who took it, but Rob has some other pics I think. That is great that he is going into the Hall of Fame- the last we heard he was not voted in as the east coast folks were holding out.
