The warmest summer I ever spent was the winter in San Francisco

Luke Christopher Grenier enjoying a pedal around the SF bay.
Once again, do not argue with a Grenier when weather is involved!
This was Little Gren's first spin on his 26" Mt. Bike.

Happy birthday Christophe Rinero

Christophe was born on December 29, 1973 and won the Mountains Jersey
in the 1998 Tour de France. That was the year that Bobby J put both
Ullrich and Pantani on the preverbal ropes in the mountains on the Porte, Cucheron, Granier, Grand Cucheron, and La Madeleine.

The celebrated jumping bike of Santa Cruz county

Nimble Nick making 10' leaps look easy peasy.

Happy Birthday to Xavier Florencio

Xavier was born on December 26, 1979 and won San Sebastian in 2006.
On December 26, 1979 I was enjoying my 'Intellivision' game system that Santa gave me on a cold winter morning in Truckee, ca.

The San Benito Boogie

The "San Benito Boogie" is back on the table. Date: TBA

Happy Birthday Jo De Haan

Jo De Haan was born on December 25, 1936. He won Paris-Tours in 1960
and took the bronze medal at the World Road Race Championships in 1963. Dave Reid's bars on his yellow Look KG were almost as narrow as Jo's.

Emperor of Herentals

Happy birthday to Rik Van Looy

He was the first cyclist to win all five of cycling's monuments
(Paris-Roubaix, Milan-San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Liege-Bastogne-Liege,
and Giro di Lombardia) for a total of eight victories in these races,
including three wins in Paris-Roubaix.

Big Mama enjoying the many colors of the mission.

Olive hitting the San Juan bakery Doug E. Fresh style (1 for now, 3 for later).

Steel Wül tattoo

I was rollin' down Butano Truck Trail trying and trying with all my
might to stay on Potter's wheel. Mind you, Potter is rolling on Zipp
404's. On freaking gravel. The Gods of descending have blessed him.
Regardless he's now a visage. Dust clouds separate us...Willy from
Santa Cruz Bikes goes by. God$&@mit was that a bell I heard when he
passes by.
I'm feeling good. In a groove. A few loose patches has my tail slide a
bit. Deep rut...high berm then I'm flipped like a pancake. Instant
deceleration.
Instant Steel Wul tattoo.

Thanks for the adventure.

Happy birthday Luigi Lucotti

Luigi Lucotti was born on December 18, 1893 and died on December 29, 1980.
He was 3rd in the 1914 Giro d'Italia. I wonder what size those tubular tires are that he has on his back 40c?

attic shopping

I rediscovered my campy super record collection while organizing the attic today.
When is the last time you have seen a 270 gr Eddy Merckx tubular?
I can't believe that we have almost lost 10 teeth off our little rings over the years.
How is it fair to the rest of the world that Italy has the best food, art, wine, cars, fashion, health, shoes, and cycling components.

Zen and the art of traffic riding

Q. What do you do when a Toyota truck tries to run you off the road on Soquel Dr in Aptos?

A. You turn left on Aptos Creek Fire Road and enjoy some peace and quiet.

Don't panic its organic:

its the naturally growing cyanothis and chapparel that smells like urine at Sandpoint overlook.

City Cyclers - One City, Two Rigs

Meet Tyson and Erika. These friendly folks were kind enough to stop and
talk shop with us for a few minuets. Tyson's Motobacane circa 1980's is
equipped with cork grips, retro thumb shifters, dove bars and compact
cranks from Rivendell Cycles. When asked where his Brooks saddle is, he
simply said, "it would get stolen in a San Francisco Minuet". Erika the
purist is rolling with a lugged Japanese track bike equipped with the
quintessential Brooks and toe-clips and staps.

BC's metamorphosis

BC has started his slow and methodical transformation from Dr. Cao MD to Dr. "Evil" SW. He earned this name when he put us all on the ropes while ascending out of the Merced River Canyon. He is sporting the Parigi Roubaix tires. His secret formula for these fatties is weight divided by 2 and offset for front pressure.

(83 PSI rear, 71 PSI front = 154 lbs of Steel Wülnes)

Note the lugged Serrota with the Steel Wül um-louts for a Head badge

Happy Birthday Edouard Wattelier

Edouard Wattelier was born on December 12, 1876 and died on September
18, 1957.

He was 3rd in Paris -Roubaix in 1898 and 2nd in 1902. I imagine he was
delighted to see the invention of the derailer.

'GOLOATC' holds 1st annual green transportation summit in Live Oak

'GOLOATC' or Groms Of Live Oak Alternative Transportation Commission

Steel Wül Cycle Club earned a Silver Medal in the 'Transportation Innovation' Category with their 'SGMUAV' Single Grom Motorized Urban Assault Vehicle.

We think it was the simplicity of the invention that caught the eyes of all the judges. Our design is safe under lock and key. However, if you are interested in borrowing the design we ask that you use 100% post consumer recycled paper bags. They work great to reduce the solder fly larvae in a typical urban compost bin as well.

Monterey County 'Black Gold'

This is Doug E. Fresh's Seven Axiom SG caked with Monterey's finest 'Black Gold'. Doesn't titanium look good in dirt! Doug E. Fresh, Mike Moore, and Eric Richter made a run for Steinbeck Country while a storm moved in off the coast.

Pedaling with 'The Gren'

"Never get in a witting match with 'The Gren' when weather is involved."

Q. What do you do with a 10mph wind at your 6 o'clock while pedaling N bound Hwy 1 in heavy weather?

A. You blindly continue north bound.
B. You turn around at Swanton Rd and put that 10mph on you nose.
C. You hook right up Bonny Doon and avoid the weather all together.

Happy Birthday Dalmacio Langarica

Dalmacio was born on December 5, 1919 and died on January 24, 1985. He won the Vuelta a España in 1946 and was able to see the Reno Rocket on the podium of the TDF in 1984. The only thing carbon in his world was the fizzy H2O.

Happy Birthday Pierino Gavazzi

Pierino Gavazzi was born on December 4, 1950. This Italian Stallion won one of the five monuments of cycling (Milan-San Remo in 1980). I am going to go out on a limb here and assume he probably never road clinchers or even tasted "goo".

Living the good life (Steel Wül style) 89'

According to my "training" journal in January of 89', I was not only mt. biking with AC in Nisene but we were allegedly catching 16 & over mid-week shows of Fishbone at the Catalyst. Please note both the posted heart rate of the mt. ride and the ever important interview scheduled for 3:00 at Straw Hat Pizza. If I remember correctly, AC just about cut his finger off with the cheese slicer. I think that is when Kev, AC and I jumped ship for the original "Micheal's Pizza". These were the days of the tuesday / thursday ride (original route) and 15 cent Piggy cookies before and after.
