Steel Wül 2010 Cobbled Classic - An Epic

No need to elaborate here. All who participated in the Steel Wül 2010 Cobbled Classic know what a grand affair it was. As good a time as you can have on a bicycle - and off one with very generous friends and family supporting the cause with spreads of delicious food and spirit. Bellisimo!

Here are some pics to digest

Riders of Steel Wul - a little prose to get you through. Till next year.......

Tap tap tap tap tap - Goes another nail in the pain cave coffin on the way to Santa Cruz city limit. But our story does not begin here!...

Twas the night before Steel Wul, when all through the house il Director was stirring the neti-pot to get oxygen to his brain The musette bags were hung by the farm table with care, Ready to feed all riders to go here and get there

Riders were nestled all snug in their beds, visions of Maillot Jaune or possibly Lantern Rouge in their heads.
Water in the bottles and butts in the shammy, riders were ready for a big solid whammy

When out from the lawn arose such a clatter, the under-23 kids race had more trash talk then chatter.
Then snapped the papparazzi, cameras, and flash, the riders were off through town in one speedy flash.

Morning sun peeked through thick clouds on the way through town, riders were anxious for the KOM and ready to throw down.
When what to my wandering eyes round the corner should appear? Flashing lights of the law man saying "Hey stop here!".

At high speed came a driver so lovely and quick, the official pace car of Steel Wul, a Tacoma - red like St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles, law man came through the thicket, Mr. Tacoma - thank you for taking the ticket.

Now Dave Reid, John Calletti, Jay Dicharry, Hess and Moore - the race for the KOM was a battle for score.
A lone fan lined the climb, one deep to see the show, oh the riders they slummed onward - go go go go!

As soft mist set upon dry leaves, the lunch spread was live, hungry stomachs opened up to get their eat on and jive.
Under the redwoods, the trough was lined with breads, meats, and cheeses, but oh holy wow! It was the brownies that pleases.

For this next verse, I know I am supposed to make a really slick rhyme, but HOLY CRAP!
I don't know what else to say, the gravel road drop was such a freakin' great time!

They were dressed in lycra team kit from head to foot, the riders of Steel Wul, covered in gravel dust and soot.
With ice cream and coke, eaten and down, the rally was on for the sprint back through town.

These sprockets how they ratcheted, the gears they burned, your place on the sprint board had to be earned.
For when heart rates had returned, calmed, and settle, it was the one called Buffalo that won the Steel Wul sprint medal.

The riders of Steel Wul then turned home, sunny and warmer, sun rays beamed down on us all the way to Sante Fe corner.
Greeted by warm food, brats, cold beer and friends, on lives Steel Wul - the ride will never end.

The Italians are Coming, The Italians are Coming!

Oh, papa...I must be able to do the race - Team Cinzano is going to be there. Papa!

Somewhere Out There

If you can correctly identify where this is, you get and extra crumpet in your musette bag. Hint: at the top of one of the most notorious "Who's Your Daddies" in the county.

Steel Wül Mini Fondo - Pescadero Boogie

The boys resplendent in their new kits. Did Bruce borrow Jan Ullrich's calf muscle for the day?

A little camaraderie goes a long way. I get by with a little help from my friends...

The payoff in Pescadero. Sando:30.
